Words and Photos
A photograph is supposed to need no words; whole unto itself, it is supposed to tell a story specific to each viewer. But I can't help writing sometimes-- whether a fragment of words, an explanation, or an entire story that goes with a photo.
So here are photos with words. These are experiments: text overlays on photos, stories side-by-side. The first few are from a motorcycle trip I did with my first real camera; we went 5,000 miles up and down highways and dirt roads from New York city south down the Blueridge Parkway, back up through the Midwest and all over the West on backroads. I have a vision to redo this trip someday-- either on bikes again or maybe in the VW van. In my head, I can already see contextual portraits in panoramic format of people we will meet along the way. Hopefully those photos will be much better than these in both content and execution. But even so, they too might need a few words to go with them . . .
